Stories in Song

I live in Carrickmore, Co Tyrone, Ireland and I have been singing since I was a young boy.

I grew up in a family with a long tradition in music, song and story telling. 

I still remember my mother teaching me my first song ( The Girl from Donegal )

and singing it at family gatherings at about 8 years old.

I always took it as the normal thing to do and loved to be part of it all.

Looking back now I realise it was something special and I feel blessed to have experienced a way of life that is sadly fading out.

 

I have been fortunate to have been part a few Irish folk bands in the past, and now I have decided to go a different road as a solo artist and see where it takes me.

 

My love for folk and country music has had a great influence on the style of songs I write.

I write about the people who have influenced me in the past as well as songs about the times we are living in now.

 

Folk songs are stories of the people, sung by the people.

 

I am proud of my tradition and I want to keep folk music alive by writing new songs in the traditional style I love and listeners recognize.

 

I would like to thank my family and the many people who have

sent messages of support and who continue to follow me on my musical journey.

My Own Carrickmore

This song is written about Paddy's home town. It tells the story of a older man returning home and recalling the days of his youth. Calling in with family and neighbours, the places he loves and his joy to live the rest of his life in his home town.

Blonde In The Black Skirt

I wrote this song after a friend of mine said one Friday evening, after work. I'm away to meet a Blonde in The Black Skirt. When I asked. Who was she? He said "a lovely big pint of stout".

Sea Bird

This song is written about someone who in a distant land and wishing a Sea bird would carry him back across the ocean and into the arms of the love he left behind.

 

Genocide is the flood.

This song is written about the murder and suffering of the innocent Palestinian people in Gaza and what they have to endure on a daily bases. It is also link to a charity to help raise much needed funds.
